Discover the Natural Beauty of Thomson Nature Park

Thomson Nature Park offers nature lovers multiple trails and a chance to appreciate the freshwater habitat and observe the great diversity of ferns and aquatic animals present.

Thomson Nature Park

Source:NParks

Just 4mins drive from Lentor Hills Residences, visitors can explore a rich history in Singapore, as the location of an abandoned 1930s Hainanese village ruins are still within Thomson Nature Park, and form an important part of the park’s conservation site.

The park also has a 50-hectare buffer zone that protects its heritage and natural assets such as trees and ponds. There are several trails within Thomson Nature Park, including the Ferns Trail, Figs Trail and Buffer Thomson Trail. Each trail highlights different aspects of nature or cultural heritage, offering visitors a unique experience in appreciating nature.

Thomson Nature Park is an excellent location for those looking to explore Singapore’s natural heritage in a tranquil setting.

The park is located along Thomson Road, and joins other nearby parks such as Springleaf Nature Park and Windsor Nature Park to increase the buffer zone of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

Additionally, this nature reserve also houses a wide range of rambutan plantations and other natural flora and fauna that make it an excellent spot for visitors wanting to experience Singapore’s natural reserves in all their glory.

This exploring park is made up of four scenic walking trails that serve to take visitors on a journey through the park’s past. The trails within the park serve hikers and nature-lovers alike with its piece de resistance – vegetation breathing life into an old road network and past abandoned wells. Exotic animals are not unheard of in this part of Singapore, and visitors can even take a raft ride through the lush vegetation.

All in all, Thomson Nature Park spans around 8km, making it perfect for both short jaunts and longer hikes.

The main entrance of the park is located on Thomson Road, near Nemesu Ave. Visitors can also see the entrance from Old Upper Thomson Road. Once inside, they can take a walk on the 650m Rambutan Trail or the Langur Trail, both of which offer great views of Singapore’s countryside.

For those who prefer to drive, there are two carparks available – one along Old Upper Thomson Road and one at the roadside carpark near Nemesu Ave. There is also a gantry at the main entrance for visitors who wish to explore further. At the end of their journey, visitors will find an old farmhouse and Macaque Trail where they can observe various species of wildlife such as macaques and monitor lizards.

The Thomson Nature Park Singapore is a great place to explore and discover the natural beauty of Singapore. It also offers a Ferns Trail, where visitors can take a glimpse at the plantain squirrels and many interesting trees. There is only one stream on the entire trail, but it has several branches that run towards Thomson Road.

The park also has three spots for primates such as long-tailed macaques, where visitors can observe them from close by. One of the more popular trails in the park is the Fig Tree Trail, which provides visitors with an amazing view of old upper Thomson Road and its surrounding environment. This entire trail will provide visitors with plenty of opportunities to see wildlife up close and personal, as well as stunning views of nature in its finest forms.

Nature Park Networks: Building a Sustainable Future

The Nature Park Networks will comprise three new parks, developed by NParks, in Khatib to join up existing green spaces with new parks. This new Khatib Nature Corridor will be the first of its kind in Singapore and is part of a larger effort to create a more connected and resilient urban landscape.

The three new parks are located along the Seletar Reservoir, Bongsu Nature Park, Nee Soon Extension and Lower Seletar Reservoir Park. The park network will provide an island-wide terrestrial ecological corridor between the four nature reserves and strengthen Singapore’s ecological corridors.

The Khatib Nature Corridor project is estimated to be completed in two years’ time. When fully established, it will form part of a larger network of Nature Park Networks that are being developed across Singapore as part of NParks’ Islandwide Terrestrial Eco-Link (IWEL) initiative. The IWEL initiative aims to establish island-wide ecological corridors that will facilitate species movements from one habitat patch to another and enable connectivity among green spaces throughout Singapore.

This is part of an effort to create connections between Singapore’s pockets of greenery located around Lower Seletar and Seletar Reservoir. The new Nature Corridor will improve the connectivity among these green spaces and promote ecological sustainability in the area by allowing species to move freely within the area. It also aims to enhance public access to nature areas and provide recreational opportunities for people living in the vicinity of Lentor Hills Residences.

Connecting you to your destination with speed and ease – the North-South Corridor

North South Expressway linking Lentor Hills Residences

Source: The Straits Times

The North-South Corridor (NSC) would be the longest transit priority corridor in Singapore, featuring bus-only lanes, cycling routes, and walking paths, serving mass transit riders, active mobility users, and pedestrians. The six-lane NSC will now feature continuous, dedicated bus lanes, saving bus riders as much as 20 minutes in travel time.

The NSC will also result in an improved commuting experience for motorists, by realigning traffic flows and easing congestion on the Central Expressway and on key arterial roads like Thomson Road and Marymount Road. Hence travelling to and from home at Lentor Hills Residences will soon be a breeze.

North South Express Cycling Route

Source: The Straits Times

Running parallel to the Central Expressway (CTE), NSE will help alleviate the congestion burden in the highly-used expressway, as well as on major arterial roads in its vicinity, such as Thomson Road and Marymount Road.

For bus passengers, construction may mean cutting journey times of as much as 30 minutes. The continuous bus lanes along NSC would allow buses between residential areas along the NSC to connect more quickly, by allowing buses to use ramps on the surface as well as the bus lanes.

A cycle track on an entire section of motorway would connect Park Connector networks within the HDB towns along the whole corridor, and dedicated cycle paths in HDB towns.

There will be a total of 16 entry-exit ramps and 17 stub-roads connecting various cities along this expressway for a comfortable and quick entrance-exit. The NSE will also overlap with existing expressways, including Seletar Expressway, Pan-Island Expressway, and East Coast Parkway, in order to enhance overall road network connectivity.

With the new developments across the northern and north-eastern area such as Lentor Hills, LTA says. The NSE will be able to accommodate projected growth of traffic through those areas as they expect an increase in the traffic demand generated from the new developments.

Travel with Ease from East to North via Thomson-East Coast Line

Extending to a 43-km long, the TEL will feature 31 new stations connecting with other MRT lines; East-West Line, North-South Line, North-East Line, Circle Line, Downtown Line, and future Cross Island Line. TEL will add 32 new stations to the Singapore MRT network, connecting North, South, and East of Singapore with the Central Business District (CBD).

The TEL2 is the sixth MRT line in Singapore, of which eight are interchange stations. Construction works on extending the TEL to an existing Changi Airport MRT station, which is a terminal station for the East West MRT Line, began in 2020.

TEL map

The LTA also announced Woodlands Town to be the link with the existing North-South line, with a further station located close to Republic Polytechnic. As the TEL2 runs parallel to the North-South Line (NSL), it would also contribute towards the reduction of the dependence on the NSL as well as the commuting burden. TEL is intended to serve areas that are not adjacent to any stations on the East-West line, as well as alleviate congestion at existing stations.

Commute times into the CBD or northern parts of Singapore would significantly decrease from Lentor Hills Residences. Additionally, the new Stevens Interchange will give residents access to the Downtown Line (DTL) and the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), making trips more seamless.

The TEL, when fully completed, in phases in 2024, 2025 and 2027, will benefit more than 240,000 households as they will be within a 10-minutes’ walk from a TEL Station.  The TEL will significantly increase accessibility and connectivity for residents living in Lentor Hills Residences, with interconnectors for all existing lines.

The roadway transportation system is also being upgraded, which allows residents to have seamless trips to Orchard Road, the commercial hub of Singapore. The central location of Lentor Hills Residences allows residents to experience fast trips to the central district and different parts of Singapore using the upcoming North-South Corridor (NSC).
